N.W.A Among 25 other Inductees In This Year’s Hall Of Fame Class

Today it was announced that N.W.A.’s album Straight Outta Compton is among 25 other inductees in this year’s hall of fame class, which includes Elvis Presley’s “Jailhouse Rock,” Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” David Bowie’s “Changes,” Billie Holiday’s Lady Sings The Blues, Beach Boys’ “I Get Around” and many more.

N.W.A was rectley added to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and it marks yet another sign of hip-hop being recognized for it’s significant contributions to American culture.

“The Grammy Hall Of Fame represents all genres of music, acknowledging the diversity of musical expression for which The Academy has become renowned,” said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy in a statement. “Memorable and inspiring, these recordings are proudly added to our growing catalog and are an integral part of our musical, social and cultural history.”

N.W.A.’s Straight Outta Compton first hit shelves in 1988 and caused a lot of fuss when it was released almost 30 years ago. In fact, their track “Fuck Tha Police” still rubs people the wrong way to this day. Back in October, one restaurant employee was fired because he played the song at work while cops were eating there. Yikes.
